Partnering Workshop with Iiro Näkki and Anni Koskinen
9-11 August, 2019
Wilhelminenhofstr 91, 12459 Berlin
Minimum level: Experienced movers from various disciplines are welcomed!
Through a practice of shifting weight we help each other to slide, fly and generally move through space. Our approach functions through games, movement tasks, rehearsing specific technical skills and learning to read contact through the skin.
Patterns of Weight Sharing:
– Leaning, falling, following
– Lifting, carrying
– Supporting, assisting
Scales of Touch and Manipulation:
– Touching, not touching
– Guiding, leading, forcing
– Grabbing, suggesting, asking
This weekend-long workshop includes themes such as seizing and releasing control, exploring the scales of manipulation and practicing adaptation in the form of managing distances, directions and amount of weight shared in the moment of dancing together. Through these different openings and framings we’ll explore various ways of moving with another.
We’ll also explore set movement sequences. Set material never stays the same though, as compositions require a practice of adaptation and awareness. What is that practice? This approach of ”semi-fixed sequences” allows for a spherical aesthetics that does not assume a certain spatial path. It rather negotiates its movement trajectories each time anew.
