Collaboration briefs look for duos, collectives, cross-disciplinary pairings or artists willing to work with a community, a scientist, a writer or an institution. What they have in common is that the outcome is not something one person makes alone.
That changes what a panel reads for. Alongside the work, they are assessing whether the collaboration is real, whether the people involved have a reason to be working together beyond the application, and whether the proposal describes something genuinely co-authored rather than two practices running in parallel.
Agree authorship, credit and ownership before submitting, not after selection. Who is named first, who owns the resulting work, what happens if one of you withdraws, and how any fee or prize is split. These are straightforward conversations early and difficult ones late.
Where the collaboration involves a partner outside the arts, be concrete about what each side contributes. Panels have seen many proposals where the non-art partner is decorative, and they read for whether the exchange actually goes both ways.
