Mentoring 2020 Krystel Khoury (researcher, anthropologist and cultural manager)
In times of continuous change Centrale Fies and the curatorial team of LIVE WORKS add two important news
to the Call of this eighth edition.
At the end of the Open Call – set for 30th of April 2020 – 6 artists will be selected and each artist will have a
fellowship of € 3,000.00 for the creation and production of the project.
Since its creation, Live Works has been conceived as a gathering of living bodies as well as a moment of strong
proximity allowing forms of collective intelligence and commons of competences to emerge.
The current sanitary crisis imposes physical distancing upon us and creates deep uncertainty in how to imagine our
futures together and the shape this togetherness could eventually take.
In this evolving situation, Centrale Fies cannot be sure whether Live Works will be able to exist in its original form in
July 2020 or if it will have to manifest itself differently.
In response to the precariousness of our shared condition and out of the will to take responsibilities towards the
artists who have been applying to Live Works Vol. 8, the curatorial team has decided to pursue the preparation of the
forthcoming eighth edition of the program, baring in mind the potential need of rethinking the boundaries of its
The deadline for applying to Live Works is therefore extended till 30th April 2020.
The selected artists will be notified by the end of May and will be taking part actively in discussing with the curatorial
team the eventual transformations Live Works Vol. 8 will have to go through in case enacting a collective experience
this summer becomes impossible.
According to the future possibilities of our mobility and bodily co-existence, the selected artists and the curators will
find together the best ways to develop Live Works Vol. 8, its research and production residency, its free school
featuring critical and feedback sessions as well as its live program.

LIVE WORKS Vol. 8
The open call LIVE WORKS includes a creative residency period for the selected projects. LIVE WORKS sees
performance as a work space, and as an instrument and cultural exercise. Starting from the notion of
performance in the visual art practice, the project is unique in its particular attention to hybrid research,
underlining the openness and fluidity of performance, its social and political implications and its level of
The announcement is open to a wide range of performative actions, also including
sound and new media arts, text-based performances, lecture performances, multimedia storytelling,
choreographic practices, relational and workshop-based projects, and other projects questioning the idea of
performativity beyond the body.
Artists and professionals from any geographic location and with no limits on age can enter the
announcement, as individuals or in groups, with a single project. The open call only accepts unpublished or
long-term projects that need to be developed and/or concluded, for which participation would represent an
evolution of the project or it’s final chapter.
For each selected project will be awarded a budget of € 3.000,00.
The production of the performance projects during the residency will be supported by diverse types of
curatorship, from theoretical to technical development, a Free School of Performance with Studio visit,
critical session and reading group. During the residency phase, Centrale Fies will provide a production and
curatorial staff to assist the artists as they develop the selected projects.
The performances produced will be presented during the 40th edition of the Drodesera Festival of
Performing Arts. On this occasion the projects will be discussed by a board of international professionals,
working for festivals, institutions, residencies and production programs that sustain and produce research in
