Pragovka Gallery announces a 2nd round of Open Call for the submission of projects for exhibitions in the Pragovka Gallery for the year 2020.
Deadline for sending applications: 5. 9. 2019 (23:59) / Applications sent after the dead line will not be included into the procedure.
Meeting of the Commitee for project selection: 9. 9. 2019
Pragovka Gallery is focused on the presentation of contemporary art, emerging artists, art groups, studio exhibitions and also presenation of solo exhibitions of young artists.
Pragovka Gallery, which has been in operation since January 2018, is currently divided into three spaces. Entry, Rear, Pop-Up. Since the capacity of the exhibition projects for 2020 in Rear space has already been filled on the basis of the first round of open call, information about Rear will be omitted in the following text.
Entry - 146.58 m² - focuses on the presentation of solo projects across genres and media, or projects by smaller art groups. It is suitable for projects working directly with space of the gallery. In total, there are 8 exhibitions on the program for 2020 of which 1 is part of this call.
Pop-Up - The 98 m² space is designed for presentation of classical media. Pop-Up is mainly involved in painting and sculpture and projects on the edge of art and design. In total, there are 8 exhibitions on the program for 2020 of which 3 is part of this call.
You can only apply for Entry and Pop-Up with your project - a total of 4 projects will be selected.
The target group of Open Call are students and emerging artists up to 7 years after school. With special interest, Pragovka Gallery also focuses on artists from outside of Prague, giving them a unique opportunity to present their projects to the Prague public. At present, there is a complete lack of a platform in Prague that would allow these groups to exhibit on a large scale. Pragovka Gallery provides space for beginners and artists outside of Prague with an area of over 800m².
The aim of our program is not just to create another gallery. Pragovka Gallery is supposed to be a vibrant place where performances, accompanying lectures and workshops for the public will take place. We therefore welcome projects that offer an interesting accompanying program.
Today, Pragovka Gallery is a main part of Pragovka Art District - multicultural center providing an inspiring environment for collaboration and space for a fruitful exchange of ideas between different artistic groups.
You can submit of the Open Call with your own theme, or under the theme "Labutí píseň / The Swan Song".
In our view, Swan Songs includes:
Projects that value our / your place in the world we live in. We welcome projects based on personal mythology as well as activist and political projects.
Projects based on institutional and environmental criticism. Also in terms of the place where the gallery find ourselves - a cultural center in an industrial environment, but also in terms of the position of humanity toward the planet. We believe that both of these positions are closely related.
Projects targeting Pragovka Gallery and its reflection.
Projects, in any way reflecting the artistic concept of Swan Song.
The projects will be selected on the basis of a meeting of a nine-member committee composed of members of the Association Pragovka for Art, z.s., Pragovka residents and invited experts. The commitee is not obliged to select the entire number of projects if they are not at the required level. Each member of the commitee has the right to nominate two other projects.
Projects with an accompanying program like performance or additional events are welcome. The requirement is at least one accompanying program during the exhibition. There are no restrictions on the exhibitor (neither age nor medium), however, the gallery is targeted at emerging artists - students and graduates within seven years after graduation. If this limit is exceeded, the absolute majority of the commission is required.
The amount of support and funding of projects may change depending on the budget of the Pragovka Gallery.
