The annual Open Call is a great opportunity to imagine your work along the canals of Amsterdam. Whether you have an existing work, a new development of a previous work or an idea for a new work: Amsterdam Light Festival is open to submissions.
For the past 15 years, the festival has been lucky enough to support the vision of artists from across the world in bringing their stories to our city. The Open Call is our opportunity to come into contact with artists and artworks that are not on our radar and learn more about what light art means to people across the globe.
NEW AND EXISTING WORKS
While we’re primary looking for new works to present, if you think that something you’ve already made could fit, or could be adapted to fit, we’d like to hear from you too.
CO-CREATION OR COMMISSION
Amsterdam Light Festival has a great team of technicians and producers who are able to translate your concept into a technical reality. In fact, some of our most popular works have been made here in Amsterdam. That means you don’t necessarily need to have a lot of technical knowledge to submit a concept, so long as you’re open to going on that journey together with us to reach the final design.
However, if you are yourself a maker of work in public space, we’ll support you in ensuring that your work meets the standards for exhibition in Amsterdam’s canals, including engineering and wind calculations, light and control systems suitable for outdoors, and advice. We also have a huge network of local companies, start-ups, metalworkers and designers that can help make the components of your work sustainably here in Amsterdam.
Our team plans and installs each and every artwork in the city together with sustainable partners, and mostly via boat from the water. They’ll ensure that your work has the right permits and plan the entire installation for you. So whether you’ll be helping to install your work yourself, or using the support of our crew, the festival will make sure you have everything you need to make it a success.
