Thirdplat’s January 2027 open call, Counter-Memory, invites artists to explore how the past is remembered, recorded and disputed. A family photograph may preserve a life absent from public history; an inherited garment may carry experiences no archive has kept. Whose stories endure, and who decides what is forgotten? We welcome works that revisit overlooked histories, question established accounts or explore the uncertainty of personal recollection. Possible approaches include reworking family albums, recording oral histories, reconstructing vanished places or using materials and gestures to convey memories that resist documentation. Works may address intimate experiences or collective histories, including the legacies of colonialism, contested monuments and disappearing digital records. Moving image, writing, photography, craft, painting, performance, sound, design, installation and interdisciplinary responses are all welcome. Existing and newly created works can be submitted; no academic or theoretical background is required. We invite you to bring another account of the past into view, without needing to resolve its contradictions.
