Ursula Mestre is a visual artist born in Portugal, in 1987, and based in Edinburgh. She has been developing her work through several media – mainly photography, but also video, performance and installation art. Through the camera she’s been not only capturing life before her eyes but also making the visions of the world within her become real. The heart of her creative vision is the study of the female body - mostly her own body, a big part of her work’s either self-portraiture or autobiographical - and the female universe, consubstantiating the vividness, the intensity and the passion generated and developed in her inner world, opposing to but also complementary of the outer world, with oneiric and dark sets in a critical attitude of self-contemplation, trying to suspend time and to clutch all the beauty and complexity of the female world – its mystery, its complexity, its demons, its shapes.
