Tootsie Warhol met with Donald Trump in 2017 to discuss voter suppression in his former career as a civil rights attorney. In an act of self-redemption, Tootsie Warhol, dons a gold wig and orange face paint and performs in a satirical anti-Trump character.

In the year of 2020, marked by a pandemic and a worldwide racial awakening, Tootsie Warhol filed with the FEC and ran for president as a write-in, Anti-Trump candidate in a campaign designed to engage voters on social media and in person in new ways.

Despite Broadway theaters closed, artist and activist, Tootsie Warhol was able to safely bring performance art to a wide and diverse audience in summer and fall of 2020 with performances in Central Park, at Black Lives Matters Protests, at the Women's March, and in Times Square where he stood for nearly six weeks daily.

tootsie warhol (b. 1985, Manhattan - @tootsiewarholNY), is a Queens-based artist and activist with degrees from the University of Virginia and Brooklyn Law School and is immediately announcing his candidacy for president of the United States. The self-proclaimed “Anti-Trump” and “gay love child of Joe Exotic and Donald Trump on meth” is campaigning on an activist and satirical platform.

This is the first solo gallery show for the artist available online at TREMENDOUS GALLERY (LINK). tootsie warhol met with President Trump among civil rights leaders at Trump Tower on the week of the president’s inauguration and was featured on the front page of the New York Times digital shaking Trump’s hand.

In an act of self-redemption, tootsie warhol defaces images of mobile morgues and mass graves in New York City with quotes from President Trump and presents this raw and immediate work online in the middle of the pandemic. tootsie warhol is quarantined and working in Queens, the epicenter of the crisis. The quotes from Trump such as “it’s like a flu” highlight the failing of the president to take the coronavirus seriously resulting in the preventable deaths of tens of thousands of Americans.

The title of the show, the “Death and Disaster Series,” references Andy Warhol’s infamous 1963 “Death and Disaster Series” which also used appropriated media images in the form of car crashes and the electric chair.

About “Isn’t it Ironic? (The Marie Kondo Web Store)”

With the holiday shopping season in full swing, and with online sales pushed to record levels as a result of the coronavirus, Tootsie Warhol takes a critical look at Marie Kondo’s KonMari™ web store.

Rooted in the critique of American consumerism that Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s soup cans and Coca-Cola bottles ignited in the 1960s, Tootsie Warhol pushes this conversation into the 21st century in a new exhibition featuring 2 videos and 21 photographs.

The first video, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The American Art of Cluttering Your Home with Marie Kondo Merchandise” is a two-minute iPhone screen grab of a seemingly endless scroll through the KonMari™ web store set to Alanis Morissette’s classic 1996 single “Ironic.”

The second video, “Untidying Up with Marie Kondo” spoofs the Netflix show “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” with screen grabs from the Netflix show and satirical subtitles highlighting the conflict that the cluttered KonMari™ web store presents.

The exhibition emphasizes how incongruous Marie Kondo’s branded products are in contrast to her minimalist mantra through edited still images with playful titles such as “It’s Like… So Zen” and “The Hard-Boiled Egg.”

Tootsie Warhol (b. 1985, New York - @tootsiewarholNY), is a New York-based artist and activist with degrees from the University of Virginia (B.A. American History and Spanish, 2007) and Brooklyn Law School (J.D., 2010).

On the eve of Donald Trump’s inauguration, Tootsie Warhol met with the president at Trump Tower along with civil rights leaders to discuss voter suppression and was featured shaking hands with Mr. Trump on the New York Times digital front page. This 2017 meeting with Mr. Trump propelled Warhol to leave his career as an attorney in 2019, to dedicate himself to art and activism, and inspired his satirical performances of President Trump, which channel the experience of meeting President Trump to many people who may not have that opportunity.

Warhol became deeply engaged in human rights as an assistant district attorney in the Brooklyn DA’s Domestic Violence Bureau where he aided Spanish-speaking female victims of domestic violence from Bushwick and Sunset Park. He is an active member of the MoMA Junior Associates, the Guggenheim Young Collector’s Council, and the Whitney Contemporaries.
