"Selfless" confronts the inner landscapes of identity and the conflicts of sharing the most secret parts of ourselves.
It investigates the many layers that help form a stable sense of identity whilst trying to share the self that is formed. With stripping back each layer the control is still held by the sujet carefully deciding how far one is able to get in contact with the truest part of the self.

'Fragments of Shame” reflects unwanted aspects and emotions regarding the identities of the self, its innate desires and unloved sexualities that have been suppressed and hidden away — both consciously and subconsciously. Sebastian looked at the sensibility and quality of the emotion (“shame”), that surfaced daily, translating it through light, colour, space and makeup into visible fragments.

The photograph asks the spectator to observe their own thoughts and narratives when confronted with this image: Allowing the viewer to dive into their own imagination captivated by the intense gaze that pulls into their own continuation story: Whether it is a rational explanation of the visual or a fantastical reality that is made up. 

With its surrealistic influence the story can go whichever way we are lured into and tempted by the serenades that it sings.

Which voices to we trust to guide us through our own experience of reality?

The Whisperer is a reflection of an inner saboteur. With its innert compelling views and easy to believe stories we often follow the voices that narrate our story through this distorted lens. Bewitched by its sensibility and beauty we see ourselves following down darker paths.

This piece as a self-portrait channeled the inner emotional turmoil for not being recognised as an expression of the true self. This boiling anger needed fluidity and sharpness both accumulating in a glaring gaze to penetrate the surface of the image itself. 

It is raw boiling emotion within the inner landscape yet expressing it in a divine feminine strength with the mindset of creating rather than destroying. With anger there are two ways one can decide for a split second. To use the power to give life or use the energy to destroy it. Life in this context can mean a part of the own soul, a part of reality or a even a mental construct. 

The title itself refers to a common phenomenon of rephrasing the harsh truth of the rawness of anger as “pushing the button”: yet instead of being pushed by a perceived outside force the one holding the button has a choice and therefore the control to go into either direction: male destruction or female creation.  Or are we choosing a third way that may also be proposed by visiting this image?
