Overview

6okken is an artist-run residency in Oishi, a small village on the north shore of Lake Kawaguchi at the foot of Mt. Fuji, about two hours from Tokyo by bus. Six houses stand together, and our members live and work in the same cluster. Each resident or group has a whole house to themselves.

Terms are 26 nights, eleven times a year, arriving on a Friday and leaving on a Wednesday. The 2027 terms start on Jan 22, Feb 19, Mar 19, Apr 16, May 14, Jun 25, Jul 23, Aug 20, Oct 1, Oct 29 and Nov 26. Applications are open year-round and should reach us at least 60 days before the start date.

Artists, writers, curators and researchers of any nationality, discipline and career stage are welcome, on their own, in pairs, as small teams or with family. We speak English and Japanese.
