As Cottage Grove continues to grow, Glacial Valley Park (9900 Ravine Parkway S) is the newest community park along the northern boundary of the community. This area has an interesting and strong geological history. Although it appears as a dry prairie basin today, it is also considered a buried bedrock valley. This particular valley is so long that it crosses many communities. The valley likely eroded by meltwater from glaciers and but got to its deepest depths where overlie fault lines exist. The valley, now filled with glacial deposits, is approximately 100-200 feet deep. This area was also where the St. Croix River once flowed before it shifted to the east at its current location we know today
