2025 Theme : Rising and Receding
When does art intervene in reality, and when does it take a step back?
At times, art dives deep into a subject and responds directly; at others, it maintains a quiet distance to offer a new perspective. This dynamic of engagement and detachment reflects two essential ways in which contemporary art relates to society.
Like the rising and receding tides, art sometimes comes close — and at other times, it withdraws. The tide may seem to cover everything, but the ebb reveals what was hidden beneath.
This movement is not just a physical phenomenon, but a way of revealing and concealing, inviting the viewer to search for meaning within.
This open call, under the theme “Rising and Receding,” asks how art operates at varying distances from society, daily life, emotion, memory, and technology.
