Open Call Residency Jatiwangi art Factory 2026!
This opportunity is for designers, architects or spatial practitioners interested in working on rural development, community, and craft in Indonesia. Jatiwangi art Factory (JaF), founded in 2005, is an artistic collective of multimedia artists, musicians, designers and curators. Operating from a former roof tile factory in Majalengka, Indonesia, they create work that revolves around the local community, the land, and the terracotta industry in the Jatiwangi district.
Clay and community empowerment are central to all of JaF's artistic and cultural activities: from visual arts to video, exhibition curation, radio broadcasts, educational programmes and workshops, festivals, and music with a terracotta ensemble. With the residents of Jatiwangi, JaF also focuses on creating a collective consciousness and identity for the region through two concepts: Kota Terrakota (Terracotta City) and Kerja Tanah (Earthwork).
The residency at JaF offers designers, architects and spatial practitioners the opportunity to conduct research, expand their network, and develop new work in the unique context of Jatiwangi. Participants are encouraged to push boundaries, broaden their creative horizons, and experiment. At least one of the above-mentioned concepts must be woven into the proposed project.
