About the project

Interior, public-facing site. The goal of this project is to improve the Convention Center’s 2500 lobby. All semifinalist design proposals must include 2-D art for escalator barrier glass that measures approximately 224’ x 3’ and adjacent walls. Artwork must be created from durable materials to withstand pedestrian interaction.

Convention Center renovations include improving ADA accessibility to restrooms. For more information about the Convention Center, visit https://kcconvention.com/.

All artistic elements may be required to comply with applicable building codes, such as but not limited to the Americans with Disabilities Act and the 2018 International Building Code (IBC). The project team may review proposed elements relative to such requirements, including potential safety and/or security considerations.

2-5 semifinalist artists will be asked to advance to the RFP phase and propose 2-D designs. All semifinalist design proposals must be designed to include art for escalator barrier glass that measures approximately 224’ x 3’ and adjacent walls.

Tentative Schedule

  • Late October 2024: Semifinalists selected and notified
  • Early January 2025: Semifinalist artists’ proposal presentations (virtual), finalist selected
  • January-February 2025: Artist contract executed
  • March 2025: Artist procures materials, begins fabricating art
  • Art installation: Spring 2025
  • Artwork dedication: Within 1 week of installation, if applicable
