This piece is an illustration of a scene in a story I’ve been writing for the past few years that follows a projected future of the world looking at how the issues we face today can affect our tomorrow. In this piece a group of children play in an abandoned jeep as the adults of their community return home from a hunt for Red Brocket Deer in Central Trinidad

The Old Jeep

This is a piece calling for a new incarnation of myself. Using the eyes of an owl to represent my looking into my future this piece acknowledges my acceptance of who I am and pride in where I am from shown in the reflection of palm trees in the eyes. The owl is one of my spirit animals. The piece was inspired by a pair of barn owls that had been hunting in my neighbourhood during a difficult time of my life. They would sit on a nearby tree and look at me nightly and I felt as though they were guarding my spirit. 

New Selves Dawning

A piece celebrating parts of myself that I had forgotten or suppressed in the process of my life and its events. It celebrates my love for cats and their mystical nature as one of my chosen spirit animals; the figure at the centre represents my years of African studies when I was learning about the history of the diaspora (of which I am a member). The grey horns on the head piece represent my childhood fascination with devil masquerade which is a traditional art form seen in Trinidad & Tobago’s annual carnival celebration.
