During the lockdown (I am living in Spain) I re-activated my project Sun-Penetrations. I was going through my huge collection of archived Sun-Penetrations. My daily regime was to send everyday 1 into the Online world. This I did for 40 days.


QUARANTINE: 40 days—Isolation
Quaranta Giorni (forty days) is a medical term that comes from the plague epidemic in the 14th century. During this time, all ships were to remain in the port for 40 days, and the crew was not allowed to leave the ship. This to reduce the spread of infection.
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is something that we haven’t experienced yet in our lives. Many of us are confined to our homes. For 40 days I sent every day a reminder of our shared isolation in the form of a photograph of my ongoing series: Sun-Penetration. With the sun as the bringer of life. And giving light in a moment of darkness.

Ongoing series: // Sun-Penetrations //
Sun-Penetrations shows photographs and 1-minute videos of beams of the sun, which penetrate externally into the inner space, through windows, curtains, doors, burned glass, holes or cracks. 
 
Without the sun life on earth would perish within ten minutes. By visiting us the sun brings life. Sun-Penetrations show me that I am not truly living. To me there is an emotion of loneliness by experiencing them. In the responsiveness to this there lies a contrasting visual beauty.

The sun finds its way to penetrate our inner space from the sun to the earth at a mesmerizing speed of fewer than ten minutes. When we see it with our eyes and feel the warmth of the sun on our bodies it is between ten thousand and fifty million years. Whatever situation we are in or being faced with, this powerful source will always be there to shine a light on us—to let us know there is life.

SHORT STATEMENT
Temporary encounters play an important part in my work. Every time I enter a new temporary community I have to let go of the ego. And embrace my ignorance. Not by hiding or concealing it. But by asking questions. This then becomes part of the work. This often can also be healing for the person who is being asked these questions. With sensitive topics, I can only receive responses when I am open and empathetic. As a tool, I have my bridges. I work with bridges in my art as an ongoing theme.

I work with bridges in my art as an ongoing theme. To me, the bridge stands as a freedom-metaphor symbolizing connection, movement, and transformation.

A BRIDGE between the PAST and the NEW
This is a new to develop artwork/action for WENNFELD_HAUS | next in Tübingen. Here I have a budget and platform—and thus tools to create my new work: A BRIDGE between the PAST and the NEW.

My objective is to create a dialogue with the territory via the topic of a personalized and living bridge.
I will work with 8 people and together we create a living bridge. In where we blend our stories (real or fictive) from our old selves into our future selves.

We will explore the question raised in the proposal: How do we want to live? Where and with whom? How do we define a good life?

This living bridge can also move. Thus symbolizing that as a body moves over a bridge. That one has to do the own moving to get over the bridge. Yet the bridge can be a supporting and helping structure assisting in the moving to a new shore.

What comes next? Perhaps the person/s moving over the bridge can define this. And in this case, the people participating in the living bridge will play with this question and with it creating a moving and living thinking bridge. With for all the participants (and in a way the viewers) to help them to make a good and thoughtful crossing.
