The Shadow Game of the Sultan

Corrupt Optimism, Cox reflects on the architectural, cultural and political changes in the landscape of Turkey after his hometown was struck by a devastating earthquake on February 6th, 2023\. Grief, uncertainty and vulnerability were the big themes that followed. Installation proved to be the right medium to address these massive emotions, and channel them into recreating the vitiated foundations of his city. Sculpture played a role in addressing the physical issues that were imbedded in city, while the drawings addressed the social issues and emotions after the earthquake.

Corrupt Optimism

It is a memory drawing of the streets Kevin grew up in, and how they are now transformed after the earthquake.

"Untitled" is a manifestation of self-observations in the spaces and monuments I moved around. From the conversations with friends, to the observations in his daily life, I used an Oak tree as the main monument for this composition. collage enabled him to point out these overlapping events that took place in his life in order to find their junction.
