"BIG SKY" MASK (Blue, Pink, White)

Description: A pop noh mask adorned with a painting of a bright blue sky over the forehead and eyes, and an unbroken floor of white clouds over the mouth and lower half of the face. This one represents "Big Sky", the boundlessness of being and thinking; endless sky, endless consciousness. There is a scratch on the left cheek, revealing a small portion of the red layer of paint that lies underneath the face of Big Sky. A mask of vast openness, of supernatural clarity.

This one represents Charon, the ferryman of the dead, an underworld chauffeur who embarks the recently departed spirits on a drive of great transition into the everlasting night. An adaptation of The Odyssey accompanied by electronic music. Features original music and text inspired by Emily Wilson's 2017 translation of the Homeric narrative. An exploration of the pains of transformation, feelings of inadequacy, and the desire to break free from the hero's journey.

**_CHTHONIC ARCHIVE no.1: Epic Fail_** was first performed on the roof of 106 Studio in Downtown Los Angeles in 2018 under the title _EPIC FAIL_. Duration: 45min

**_CHTHONIC ARCHIVE_** is an ongoing performance art project and published series. Each piece threads gestural and radio acting into music and soundscapes framed by video installations. Published works document the premieres in texts and images. 

  
_CHTHONIC ARCHIVE_’s performances fuse the aural intimacy of 1930s American radio dramas with stylized visual idioms inspired by traditional Japanese Noh theater. Story material is at once personal and archaic: the artist mines mythological terrain for glimpses of himself and his unfolding world.
