Between Space and Time – A FineART Series

When I set out to photograph Komorebi, I didn’t know I was actually searching for a feeling — not an image.

 
 

I wanted to hold on to something that can hardly be held: 

that shimmering dance of light and movement that doesn’t appear when sought — but when you wait, watch, and allow it to find you.

 
 

Sometimes I think Komorebi is like a quiet smile of nature. 

Delicate, fleeting — and yet so touching that something within wants to pause. 

It paints patterns on the ground, on walls, on faces — and sometimes, onto the camera sensor. 

In my photographs, Komorebi is not the subject — it is the mood, a space in between, an exposure, a breath.

 
 

An image that perhaps suggests more than it shows. 

And that is where its beauty lies for me: just as light never falls the same way twice, this moment, too, is unique — and already gone.

 
 

Komorebi I — Gentle Awakening 

A fine, almost fleeting light touches the first skin of spring. 

“Gentle Awakening” captures that moment when something new is still sensing, still silent. The delicate structures seem to emerge from the light itself — like a breath on the edge of retreat and beginning. 

For me, Komorebi here feels like a quiet promise. A moment in which I simply see — without searching. A soft resonance arises between image and beholder: light, open, alive.

 
 

Komorebi II — Golden Letting Go 

This image doesn’t show summer — but its farewell. 

“Golden Letting Go” gathers the last light into a single leaf. It seems to glow not despite, but because of its fading. 

In Japan, Komorebi describes sunlight filtering through trees — but to me, it’s more than a natural phenomenon. 

It’s a state of mind, a gentle reminder that letting go is not emptiness — but maturity. 

When I pause and watch the light turn golden once more, I feel: beauty lies in transition.

 
 

Komorebi III — A Whisper of Color 

Fading tones in shadow, an almost invisible play of light — “A Whisper of Color” is an image about memory. 

Not loud, not sharply defined, but soft, vibrating — like a thought you can’t quite grasp. 

I think of Japanese aesthetics — of the sensual awareness of transience. 

Komorebi, for me, is exactly that: light between things, penetrating everything — just for a moment.

 
 

Footnote: Komorebi (木漏れ日) is a Japanese word describing sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees. But more than the light itself, it describes a feeling — that fleeting pause in the moment between light and shadow, between what is visible and what cannot be seen.

Silent meditation in the rain.

 
 

A work about inner spaces and quiet encounter. 

Not the depiction of a tree – but the testimony of a relationship: 

Two images, two perspectives – connected by what lies between.

 
 

This work emerged from a moment of recognition: 

For ten years, the tree stood before my window. 

And only one morning – in the light of rain – was it truly there.

 
 

“Tree in front of the window” unites two motifs that reveal their full essence only together: 

– Left: the trace of the tree – a bare silhouette in soft backlight. 

– Right: the window in rain – fleeting patterns, drawn by water.

 
 

A verse completes the silent dialogue: 

A tree 

A window 

Rain draws circles

 
 

Two perspectives – a conversation without words. 

Together, they open a space – for contemplation, connection, and stillness.

 
 

Two images, two breaths – 

an invitation to see the world with new eyes, if only for a moment.
