THE LUCKY ONE is a multi media piece, which is presented by 6 performers. It deals with experiences of discrimination, that I had experienced since coming out. At the same time, I try to refocuse by adding more queer voices in form of a short video interview. Here, they had the possibility to say whatever they felt that needed to be said. 

The aim of the piece is to make the viewer aware of discrimination, while not reducing the queer community to those experiences. Thank you to the beautiful performers Stefanie Regina Dietzel (she/her), Pras G. (he/him), Cora Hamilton (they/them), Karl Pinzon B. (s*he/s*him) and Luke Swenson (he/him) as well as to everyone who has contributed with a video - El Fox (they/them), Nomi (she/her), Jonah (he/him) and Alexander (she/her). And thank you Procrastination Matters Studio for the video editing.

I presented the piece at Poropati for the first time on 11/12/19. I was very touched how well it was received and how much it meant to many people in the audience. I would like to work further in that piece as I believe that I can improve the message and give a better insight into the queer community by adding more and divers voices.

THE LUCKY ONE

My body is my home. My body is my castle. My body is my space.

A train station is a transitional space, that only exists in a small period of time, when people pass from one space to another, arrive or depart, maybe stay for a moment, but then leave again. A train station is not a permanent home, it is the opposite.  It is determined by movement. It is a non-space. 

Shortly before coming out as non-binary, I experienced myself a moment of extrem body dysphoria. It felt like getting rid of some sort of skin that was covering me entirely. To me this shading was letting go of all the expectations that society had on my body, that I had on my body and changing into my true form. 

With this almost physical transition, I left a part of my old body behind.  Cis bodies also experience some sort of transition if you like, when getting older, when being in puperty, but they never change their form, they just modify. The one thing, that seems to be stable in my life, seemed to leave me. My body became a non-space.

To vizualise this experience, I have worked with Berlin based photographer Rebecca Vaszen, who captured me in different metro stations in Berlin.
