For the past few years (2016-2020) I have been working on the "Face of the Earth" series, which is made up mostly of colleges of old paintings, pasted and reconnected to create new compositions. The series deals with conceptual issues such as reality and fiction, questions of sustainability and existence, and at the same time deals with formal, material and pictorial questions. The process of deconstructing and re-assembling the paintings, the vertical perspective and the absence of the horizon create a sense of loss of orientation, of hovering above unstable ground. The gaze is directed from the top down to the substrate layer, to what is happening on the surface of the painting, between the folds, under the scars. The holes in the paintings are sometimes gaping, sometimes patched, functioning as empty voids sometimes and sometimes as images, echoing questions about positive and negative space, about knowledge and memory, about knowledge and memory of the body.
