Along with being an artist I am an educator also. This summer I will be traveling to Japan with my students. In preparation we discussed Japanese culture and the EDO. The experiences of EDO women in Japan highlight important themes in gender studies, particularly regarding women's roles in society and the evolution of those roles over time. By examining their stories, students can engage with current discussions about gender equality and women's empowerment. This understanding is crucial for students pursuing careers in social work, education, or advocacy, as it equips them with a historical context to address contemporary issues related to gender and empowerment.
