As the conductor, I guided the performers in activating the sound in a counter-wise direction. The sequence of the performance reflects the history of the Earth, starting from the progress through the stage of glaciation, the existence of land animals, the emergence of humans, the development of modern science, and finally returning to the beginning when earth was but a watery orb adorned by the stars.

  
The piece also functions as a sonic installation that welcomes everyone to explore.

Into Orbit

This singing pond plays different kinds of nature sound when you touch the water, and gradually changes its color to sunset through out the day. 

Garden of Echoes

I try to give my language back to nature in this semi self ecosystem. An automatic watering system draws water from the beaker, like rain it falls on the soil below. Irrigated by water, grass grows from soil, dewdrops shine in sunlight on transparent walls. 

I Will Breathe Like Grass

I replaced a telescope with a two-way kaleidoscope I made. The idea is to have two people looking at each other through a tunnel of shining stars that was supposed to be used for stargazing. I added two reducing lenses at each side to make the stars and people look even further away from what they really are.

You are the star/distance between us

A Full moon. A labyrinth build from impossible architect drawings. An infinite waterfall that has no end and no beginning. A man, a couple, a sheep, a cow and birds all turn around to the light, their marble eyes fixed on the moon.

Moon’s Labyrinth

I begin interacting with the work by putting Emily Dickinson’s words under a microscope – the most common scientific instrument that is used to study the world. “Mushroom is the elf of plants”, “Death: A dialogue between the spirit and dust”. These words are printed on slides too small to see with bare eyes, so the audience will need to spend time looking through the lenses of a microscope to discover them, performing the same process as a scientist.

  
A monitor plays scenes of me going to multiple places in nature following Dickinson’s words. By doing this, I’m bringing her words from the past to the present, to the world we’re currently living in. Mountain, forest, river, ocean… I touch the flowing water, feel the texture of mushrooms, look at the moons and stars, eat and rest with a sense of calm and appreciation.

  
On the shelf above the microscope, I placed water, soil, grass seeds, flower petals, artificial snow, a piece of music note, plants and candy in beakers based on Dickinson’s words. I placed a mini-speaker in the water and it played sounds of birds which follow Dickinson's verse, "my friend must be a bird." Below the shelf of beakers and the table with the microscope and words, I have a chair where people may sit with the flooring covered in soil where their feet would rest. The gentle grass and soil where one’s feet touch the ground can be seen through the transparent glass table. Together they form an environment that is contemplative, organic, quiet and subtle.

Glorious my eyes have seen

Instead of using coins, I print the wishes I found on clear transparent balloons. No matter how hard you throw, these wishes always float in the air. Time is the only element that makes changes in this work. Slowly they drift down with lights like falling stars, and eventually all land into water. With a sound program, people can touch the water and make music, ripples and flickering stars respond to their movements and touch.

The Wishing Well

I made a telescope that looks back at the viewer. As one gets closer, he sees an endless tunnel of shiny stars and mirrors reflecting his own face. With 400 fiber optic lights each coming through the tiny holes cut into its mirror, the electric operation allowed me to make a flickering effect. An animated video plays at the end of the tunnel, with mirrors carrying away the shooting stars in every direction.

  
I used a camera to document people looking into the telescope. Like planets with gravity, these faces were surrounded by countless stars. Curious, blurred, lightened up by starlight, each face formed a new universe.
