The place behind the fence has no entrance, and it was abended for more than 20 years. A young lady told me that it was a government's dog pound before, but she never saw it, so did I. I do not hear the howling but only see the branches weave in and out, and weeds have grown on the wall. I spent eight weeks shooting the only two weeds that grew at my eye level behind the fence. Every week, I shot at the same time and never changed any setting on my analog camera — instead, I needed to walk near the fence again.

When I can see you through the fence only

A wooden temple abandoned by others, its deities perhaps relocated. The artist picks it up in Bangkok and places it in an exhibition in Hong Kong. Surrounded by small fans that display colorful words, it is embraced by the temple like vines, protected by the Phaya Naga, quietly waiting to be revered once again by people.

House of the holy 

Tiger Balm, a scent the artist has disliked since childhood, has unexpectedly become one of the elements that evoke a strong sense of familiarity, warmth, and connection upon their return to Bangkok. The artist presses their Tiger Balm-scented fingertips onto a glass bottle, leaving behind their fingerprints—a deliberate encounter with this disliked substance for the first time.

Pungent memories

The artist's first solo return to Bangkok is filled with a sense of navigating between the unfamiliar yet familiar, and the familiar yet unfamiliar. Through technological fantasies of an alternate self unexplored in Hong Kong, they question artificial intelligence, hoping for a complete answer. They also emulate the lifestyle and beliefs of local youth, seeking to uncover their own understanding of identity in the present.

Blue, a phrase or phenomenon, always make “blues” related to sadness and depressed emotions. It is cold color temperature, opposite of red as warm color temperature. A short-wavelength around 435 nm - 495 nm in between the cyan and violet in a spectrum of visible light.

BLUE, to look blue; to be confounded, terrified, or disappointed.

BLUE DEVILS, low spirits.

BLUE DEVILS. To have the blue devils is to be dispirited.﻿ 

Earth pigments yellow, red, purple orchards, sienna and umber were all already available. Yet, one element remained tantalizingly out of reach - blue. The color of the sky above, the pounding wave, and the heart of the flickering flame were unobtainable. The world truly is mostly a blue place, no matter how we look at this planet, it is governed by the blue part. Ultramarine, rich and vibrant, and because of its rarity and lengthy method of extraction, natural ultramarine became the most expensive of artist’s colorants - its price, occasionally, even exceeding that of gold. It is the color of the ocean which I want to turn it into my property, to privatize, and to own it. 

The ocean is everyone’s back yard or front yard or living space. The total surface area of Hong Kong is 2755.03km², the land total surface area is 1106.34km², and the water total surface area is 1648.69km², even extensive than the ground. The whole planet is where we live. There is no ‘away’ that we can put things and expect that they are really away, and we cannot escape with the phrase ‘not in my backyard.’

The ocean is blue without blues, and I wonder if I could own one, the ultramarine could light me up.

Access to the soma is a performative proposition interacting between the artist and an analogue camera. A way of revealing the relationship of performative art and documentary,  to open up and rethink this parallel connection and correlation. The photographer is also a performer being photographed; performing alongside the camera, body autonomous and react according to the mechanism of camera and chemical of film to reach the result similar to a photographic technique “chronophotography’ which should be performed by electronic devices. It encourages the spectator to enfold their body, blurring the boundary between live performance and media, as a way of presenting the post-dualism in the middle and late 21st century, adopting technology to expand the notion of the human being. 

To reveal the mutual responsiveness between the individual body and technology in the digital age -- memory and sight of mankind can be extended by new media gadgets. Photography is no longer only documentation for the performance, the awareness shifted along with breathing, blood flow and cell cycle. To show the different states of existence,  Access to the soma captures and documents its process through selfie, compressing a duration of performance into flatten-negative-film; which is also an approach to connect psyche and soma (mind and the body) through breath-hold increased the awareness of body, self counting to connect with the camera mechanism. The artwork exhibition is for longer than a month, every week the artist (performer/photographer) is in-situ,  performing and photo shooting on-site, and specifically evolute along with the period of the exhibition.
