The Lights Series is the second Series. The medium of the NFTs is further deepened as a trophy concept. The bright vibrant colors are in stark contrast to the dark background and the objects seem to radiate their own luminosity.

Sihlcity's co-ownership company is making the facades available to young artists in summer 2012 as exhibition space for monumental fabric panels. Of the total of 10 competition entries, four were evaluated by the core jury for follow-up. Three of the four works were submitted by students from our university: Sabina Speich, Vera Kluser/Anna Graber and Vera Leisibach. The latter is the competition winner with her work. Only at second glance were bones and skulls to be discovered among them. Through this combination of symbols of abundant life and lurking death, the artist further developed the tradition of vanitas depictions and pointed the viewer to their finiteness. Everything is transient: consumption, pleasure, beauty. Magdalena Plüss, curator of art at the Sihlcity building, says: "The aestheticization of the macabre as well as the formal differentiation from the clearly structured architecture by means of bright colors and spatial composition convinced the jury and ultimately led to the definitive award."

Dishes Serie

An experimental video that is edited and composed of found footage from YouTube, similar to a remix. The video explores the question of why obvious lies have recently become so popular in politics. If we look objectively at those false statements presented to us, it seems clear that they do not correspond to facts. But this seems no longer to play an important role at all. Because of statements like „There is not one truth, but only several versions of the truth!” Or it is difficult to say „What does corruption even mean, is it just bad?“. Statements like these are then pseudo-analytically supported. They are then distributed by constant reproduction through social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, and through news services such as Fox News. Through countless reproductions, they want to make us to believe them. In the end, lots of recipients really believe them because they have been brainwashed over time. The rhetorical techniques used here are called „Firehosing“ and „Gaslighting“. These are types of propaganda that aim to undermine democratic structures. The viewers are usually in an insecure situation and are therefore receptive to this rhetoric. Among other things, they will react against minorities or even against each other.

In the experimental video statements by Trump and his accomplices are discredited by himself or exposed by journalists in interviews. Obvious fake news is exposed mostly directly by Trump himself or his accomplices. The phrase „Crush The Virus“ refers to the virus of fake news, which is presented to us again and again by Trump and his accomplices. Fake News represents the virus that unfortunately many people in the USA and here have fallen for. Trump and his rhetoric, as well as those of QAnon people, have taken over, making this fake news rhetoric presentable. To remain critical and resilient towards fake news, that is constantly presented to us, we have to spend an incredible amount of energy on it. We watch how friends, family members, and acquaintances fall for it and we seem to be powerless against it. This video work tries with humor to find a playful approach to this frightening global development.

Crush The Virus of Fake News

An ongoing photo series based on an archival strategy.

For years Leisibach has been documenting inconspicuous, subtle situations in everyday life, creating a sprawling photo archive. Hoping to store these „unimportant“ moments, they are captured and collected right there with the smartphone camera. Depending on the collaboration and the context, this archive is drawn upon, and new works are created from it. With the same attention, Leisibach has recently been looking through her photo archive and using this as a source to reproduce absurd, narrative, and humorous moments using photography series. In the Believe Series, the motives I worked with include religious objects like a cross, candles, a golden angel, eggs, flowers, but also a cat, which was a goddess in Egyptian mythology, but is now a symbol of evil or bad luck.

In the Garden of Eden Series flowers, snakes, parrots, as well as berries, are composed on black background. The motifs are partially mirrored and result in an ornamental carpet.
