The Intimacy of a Strange Being is a series of self-portraits that explores the frustrating and disarming experiences of life trying to find a way not to vanish. It is an act of resistance to overcome the unbearable sense of melancholy. A melancholy caused by the dichotomy of the relationship within the self.

An embodied space that reflects the sense of void and abandonment. There the experience is inscribed. A void where the inner concepts of time and space alter from reality and generate a fragmentation of communication, a cacophony.

Resistance Along the Axon is a performance that explores the sudden changes occurring to the body following a drug-induced allergy reaction, and the impact that it has on the nervous system. In the escalation of events, the body loses control due to the alteration of the transmission among the nerve fiber axon and muscles, glands, and neurons.   The body is moving or just in stillness in the surrounding space and within its inner space. The contrast between the voice-over orders and the spontaneous and yet unnatural movements force this opposition. Embracing stillness becomes the only way to be.   

Expert from Resistance Along the Axon

Body Mapping is a collaborative project between Silvia Gentili and Paloma Tendero. They met in London around 5 years ago after finalising their MA Photography at London College of Communication. Since then, they have been sharing ideas around being artists, projects, and life experiences. 
Over the years, the fact that they have been living in different countries has not stopped them from sharing ideas virtually and through visits once a year. They were looking for ways to make a collaborative project- without realising their correspondence was already the body of work they needed.
Their personal experiences have brought them to talk about health and illness, genetics, pain, fertility, and the perception of the body. Their conversations make the invisible visible,  creating a body of work around and the way human beings relate, perceive, and understand the world through the body. Body mapping explores the experience of one’s own body shape and size, and how the body functions.
During COVID-19 lockdown, their communication increased, exchanging ideas through text, images and video. Silvia working with digital photographs of her body and Paloma exploring analogue photography with still lifes, They created a google doc where they embodied their virtual correspondence into one platform.The proposal for ARTCONNECT is to present their work in progress based on their conversations and how correspondence transforms through time and influences daily life.
