The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards is a major new program for short films providing an exceptional opportunity for creators and filmmakers from around the world.

There are three competitions:

• Filmmaker Aimed at independent filmmakers and creators from around the world, there are three categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction and Environment. Submissions must be between 5 to 20 minutes in length.

• Student Filmmaker All entrants must be studying a film course at a registered institution at a diploma or degree level worldwide. There are two categories: Fiction and Non-fiction. Submissions must be between 5 to 20 minutes in length.

• Future Format The Future Format competition challenges filmmakers to respond to a technical brief – this year, submissions are to be shot exclusively on a smartphone. Submissions must be between 2 to 5 minutes in length.
