Wendy’s Subway is seeking an Editorial Fellow to join our team in 2027. The Editorial Fellowship at Wendy’s Subway offers hands-on training, mentorship, and professional development in the field to an emerging arts/literary editor. The Editorial Fellow will work closely with our small and dedicated editorial team to gain in-depth editorial and book-making experience.
Publishing at Wendy’s Subway takes on various forms as we work closely with writers, artists, educators, collectives, and organizations to bring their work into print. Our program prioritizes practices that surface—with singular awareness—experiences, social histories, and political urgencies past and present, with a focus on literatures and voices that bring new poetic, experimental, and improvisational choreographies of language and life to the fore.
We publish around 10 titles annually as part of our interdisciplinary publishing program, which includes the Document Series (hybrid-genre artist’s books highlighting time-based artists); the Passage Series (for emerging writers working in cross-genre poetic forms); Distal (non-Anglophone writing in translation); as well as artists’ books, co-publications, poetry chapbooks, and zines.
Role and Responsibilities
The Editorial Fellow will:
+ Learn about the publication process from conceptualization to book release, including liaising with writers, artists, and designers; maintaining timelines and budgets; and coordinating production and printing
+ Conduct research for titles across our publication program
+ Fact check, edit, and copy-edit materials for publication according to our in-house style guide
+ Develop outreach strategies for our titles, to reach wide audiences and garner critical engagement, including conducting press research and outreach; expanding distribution to bookstores and libraries worldwide; and facilitating course adoptions
+ Assist in the production and promotion of publication-related events (readings, tours, workshops, performances) at Wendy’s Subway or with partnering venues or book fairs
+ Develop pedagogic resources and interpretation tools around our publishing program for educators
