join our cultural youth program: kuumba academy

The KUUMBA ACADEMY is Ashé Cultural Arts Center’s youth program initiative. For over a decade, the Academy has continued its commitment to doing as much as we can in order to leave our communities more beautiful and beneficial than when we inherited them by using cultural arts as a vehicle and foundation for youth development.

Kuumba Academy will return in the fall for Kuumba Saturdays, featuring a range of activities like African drumming, dance, cooking, STEM, digital skills, entrepreneurship, and more!

Serving youth ages 6-16, Kuumba engages young people in an exploration of African philosophy and culture through artist-led workshops in various media that will expand their critical understanding of individual and collective purpose - past, present, and future. Kuumba encourages young people to think critically through activities that center fun and curiosity.
