Overview

The peace, the light and the silence at the creative spaces of the Arvo Pärt Centre are welcoming artists from all over the world here to work, create and find inspiration. Our spacious residency room with views opening to the surrounding pine forest is open for composers and performers as well as creators from other fields – writers, visual artists, architects, film and dance artists. We welcome solo artists as well as smaller ensembles, collectives or small working groups (up to 4 people). Since 2023 the Arvo Pärt Centre residency is part of the Estonian Creative Residencies Network (LOORE).

Our aim is to offer the time and space for open-ended, creative processes. During the chosen residency period, the artist is welcome to work and practice at the APC building as well as the surrounding area with no fixed requirement for a completed work or project.

The Arvo Pärt Centre is located in Laulasmaa, 35 kilometres from Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, on a beautiful natural peninsula between the sea and a pine forest. As the centre itself does not include accommodation facilities, the residency will be combined with hotel accommodation in the area, 800m walking distance from the centre building.

The working space:

  • The Arvo Pärt Centre’s creative room is a spacious white room with a large glass wall overlooking the pine forest. There is a large round table, desk, sofa and extra chairs. If desired, the large white wall can be used to set schemes or diagrams. It is possible to use a large screen and flipchart if required. There are 2 musical instruments in the creative room at all times – a compact digital piano (Yamaha Arius YDP S54) and a 88-key Una Corda. It is also possible to rent a MIDI keyboard (Studiologic SL88). The size of the creative room is 36 square metres (9m x 4m). During the residency period, the room is meant for one resident/working group only.

  • It is possible for the resident to use other rooms at the APC if a prior agreement has been made. These rooms include the library, reading rooms and the concert hall.

By prior agreement, the resident has also access to the following musical instruments (available in different rooms of the APC):

  • Steinway D Spirio | r (Hamburg)
  • Estonia L210 (210 cm, 6’10”)
  • Steinway K-132 (Hamburg)
  • Harmonium, 440 Hz
  • Harpsichord
