The Arts & Science Council is accepting qualifications from U.S. based artists/artist teams for a public art opportunity for the City of Charlotte’s Animal Care & Control center located at 5400 South Tryon St., Charlotte, NC. This RFQ represents an opportunity for an artist, or team of artists, to create a suspended sculpture, wall relief artwork, and/or mural sited at the grand staircase from the lobby to the animal housing.
The selected artist will work with ASC public art staff, staff from the City of Charlotte’s General Services Department, CROFT & Associates Architects, ACC representatives, and local communities to create an artwork that is complementary to the architecture and design of the building. The artwork should reference ACC’s vision of being a connected, compassionate community where people and pets thrive together in safety and health. As well as their vision to protect animals, support responsible pet ownership, and deliver innovative, exceptional service every day. The work should also honor the history of the chosen property and reference the ever-present community.
