cool stop 2025: public sculpture commission

The commissioned sculpture for ‘Cool Stop’ is to be a creative solution sculpture providing significant shade at the bus stop of any design, shape, or form. The selected artist/team will be responsible for fabrication (including all structural and maintenance documentation) and delivery. Art in Public Places staff and team will be responsible for installation under advisement of the artist/artist team.

The Art in Public Places Commission in partnership is requesting qualifications and professional samples of past public artworks to be considered for the project. From the RFQ, three finalists may be selected to present design concepts for this project. Finalists will be paid an honorarium to develop and present their artwork design concepts.

While existing artworks or designs may be ultimately suggested for commission, artist and artist teams looking to participate should submit past work only and not submit project proposals in this stage of request for qualifications RFQ process.

Anticipated timeline:

• Call, ideally, closes September*
• Semi-Finalist selection mid/ late September
• Finalist Proposals due mid-October
• Contract period late October/early November
• Ideal installation spring/summer 2026
