Ethics and rules of good conduct have evolved with societies. This call for creative projects is aimed at visual artists to imagine how the spatial context and its specificities can modify the codes on which our social interactions are based.
With this call for creative projects, the Space Observatory addresses the question of good manners, understood as the rules of etiquette and consideration for others, applied to the development of human and non-human communities in space. In a context where living spaces are limited and communal, where gestures have a completely different physical impact, and where new forms of social interaction are emerging, the transposition of terrestrial rules of good conduct seems impossible. Artists are invited to take a stance, in a work solely within the visual arts, on what a new guide to good manners in space might look like.
This call is open to artists or artist collectives whose practice falls within the field of visual arts. The originality and relevance of the project, as well as the aesthetic approach and the feasibility of the proposed work, will be the main criteria considered by the artistic committee. The selected project will be announced in April 2026. The artwork will be exhibited in Paris in 2026 and will become part of the contemporary art collection of the Space Observatory and will be housed at Les Abattoirs, Musée – Frac Occitanie Toulouse.
