The Space Observatory invites artists to create a work that fully captures one of the specific characteristics of the extraterrestrial environment: weightlessness.
Parabolic flight, by producing a state of weightlessness for brief 22-second sequences, is one of the ways humans can access this specific characteristic of the extraterrestrial environment. The winning artist will participate in one of these flights to create a conceptual work that reflects this encounter with a component of the space environment. Artists are invited to imagine devices for creating part or all of their piece within this particular context.
The consideration of the antigravity component, feasibility in light of the technical constraints of flight, and the aesthetic approach adopted by the artist will be the main criteria considered by the artistic committee. The selected project will be announced from November 2026 and scheduled for the March 2027 flight campaign. After its public exhibition, the artwork will enter the contemporary art collection of the Space Observatory.
