Overview

Mattering Worlds invites artists to explore how relationships between humans, technologies, ecologies, and material forces shape emerging social, cultural, and environmental realities. Informed by new materialist and posthuman perspectives, the residency understands matter and infrastructure as active participants in producing meaning, knowledge, and collective futures.

The program welcomes artists who investigate the agency of materials, the entanglement of living and nonliving systems, and the often invisible technological structures that influence how worlds are built and transformed. Through experimentation, critical reflection, and collaboration with local communities, the residency supports artistic research that imagines more responsible, attentive, and sympoietic ways of living with the more-than-human.

Mattering Worlds is hosted across two cities in Armenia—Yerevan and Gyumri—offering an environment where media art, ecological research, and speculative futures intersect.

Artists-in-residence will have access to studio space, an exhibition venue, and opportunities for public engagement through talks, workshops, and community encounters. Residents may work with materials across biological, digital, synthetic, archival, infrastructural, or hybrid forms, exploring interdependence, embodied knowledge, and ecological attunement.
