Emerging FLINTA* Filmmakers Based in Berlin

téchne e.V. invites emerging filmmakers based in Berlin to submit their short films for Expanded Frames, an interdisciplinary exhibition and film screening taking place in October 2026.

We are particularly interested in works by FLINTA* filmmakers, and welcome submissions from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences.

Expanded Frames explores the expanded field of the image by bringing together moving and still images in a shared exhibition space. The project investigates how the concept of the frame shifts across artistic disciplines: while cinema frames movement and time, photography and painting traditionally define the image's boundaries. Through these media, the exhibition invites audiences to reconsider the frame as a space for experimentation, dialogue, and expanded perception.

We are looking for innovative, experimental, and thought-provoking short films by filmmakers whose work demonstrates a distinctive artistic vision and engages with contemporary visual culture.

We welcome submissions in the following categories:

• Experimental Film

• Video Art

• Documentary

• Fiction

• Animation

• Hybrid and interdisciplinary moving-image practices

Who Can Apply?

• Filmmakers based in Berlin.

• The call is open to FLINTA* filmmakers.

• We welcome filmmakers of all nationalities, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, ages, and diverse lived experiences.

• Individual filmmakers and artist-filmmakers are welcome to apply.

• Films must have been completed within the last five years.

• Maximum running time: 20 minutes.

• Films not in English must include English subtitles.

We particularly encourage submissions from filmmakers whose perspectives, practices, or experiences are underrepresented within conventional film and cultural institutions.

Exhibition & Screening

Selected films will be presented as part of Expanded Frames in Berlin in October 2026, alongside an exhibition of contemporary photography and painting.

The programme will also include an artist talk and an evening of exchange, bringing filmmakers, visual artists, curators, and audiences together in an open and inclusive environment.
