Project Overview: The Town of Truckee and the Public Art Commission of Truckee (PACT) invite artists and artist teams to propose a temporary public art piece for installation at the brand-new Mobility Hub for 2 years. We hope the art will inspire public interaction and enhance the community space. All media suitable for mountain climates welcome!

Project Scope: Installations may be located in the 18' x 19' designated corner pad (main site); transit shelters; benches; metal trellis; shade structures; or other areas as approved by the Town.

Summary The Town of Truckee invites artists or artist teams to submit a proposal for outdoor artwork to be temporarily displayed at the new Truckee Railyard Mobility Hub located at 10930 Church Street, Truckee, California 96161. The submittals received from this Request for Proposals (RFP) will be evaluated by the Public Art Commission of Truckee (PACT) and the Town of Truckee. An artist or artist team will be selected to display their artwork at the Mobility Hub for a maximum of two years with a payment of $5,000. Design and construction of any foundation and installation of the work will be the responsibility of the Town of Truckee (Town).

The Mobility Hub isthe new transit centerin the Railyard area of Truckee and it includes bus bays,shelters, benches, paver sidewalks, and a restroom. The Town is currently working to design a small building for the site that will provide a heated space for passengers to wait, as well as a break room for the transit drivers. This site includes an area in the southeast corner of the site that was specifically reserved for public art (Photos 1, 2, and 3).

Timing

The intent is to install the art within 1-2 months of executing contracts. Therefore, existing pieces would be more suitable in most cases.

Artwork Specifications for Sculptures

  • The southeast corner of the Mobility Hub will be reserved for sculptures. Based on the proposals received, the foundation for the sculpture will be designed and installed by the Town. One large sculpture or several smaller sculptures could fit in this area. The footprint of the sculpture or sculptures must fit in the corner area (18 ft by 19 ft).
  • The sculpture must be able to be securely anchored to the future concrete pad with bolts provided by the artist.
  • Artwork must weigh no more than 2,000 pounds.
  • Any projections beyond the perimeter of the pad must occur at a minimum of 7’ above the ground.
  • Sculptures must be structurally safe for display in public and must not have the potential to cause injury. All components must be securely fastened.
