Much of what shapes everyday life escapes our attention through its very familiarity. Materials, images, tools and techniques surround us, becoming so embedded in our routines that we rarely stop to consider how they shape what we see, remember and experience.

The upcoming exhibition- Common Things began with an interest in works that find something precise within familiar materials and experiences. The exhibition turns to the ordinary and the everyday in art: things we encounter repeatedly, materials we overlook, scenes we barely notice, and techniques and experiences that have quietly become part of how we live.

Common Things stays with the ordinary a little longer. It considers what can emerge when familiar things are observed, repeated, rearranged, remembered, or placed in a different context.

Through these small shifts in attention, what once seemed unremarkable may begin to reveal something more: a memory, a relationship, a tension, or a trace of a particular place and time.

Common Things looks for the stories hidden in plain sight, across art, design, performance, and other forms of creative practice. We invite artists and practitioners to share how the ordinary takes shape in their work.
