THE LA STATION PROJECT
Managed by its permanent resident artists, La Station's objective is to support and promote contemporary cultural and artistic life in Nice by all means and in all its forms.
An experimental structure, La Station has always organised exhibitions based not on a curatorial directive, but on an encounter of practices, mainly because it is an association of artists. As an artist residency, La Station is a structure that welcomes artists, but also provides them with guidance, advice and support. Operating thanks to the pooling of the skills of its protagonists and the support of local authorities and the State, La Station offers workshop spaces where resident artists find a place of production that promotes the maturation, autonomy and identity of their personal work.

Temporary residencies La Station, through its operation, has always brought together local and international dynamics. Its long-term residencies give priority to artists living and working in Nice, while its exhibitions offer visitors a glimpse of contemporary artistic creation in France and elsewhere. By offering artists the opportunity to come and work in its premises on an ad hoc basis, La Station By inviting artists to come and work on a temporary basis in its premises, La Station gives them the opportunity to share in the collective experience that underpins its project. For four months, the temporary resident becomes a full member of the organisation: they must embrace the spirit of the association and be sensitive to the values of the artist-run space: exchange, dialogue, living together, mutual aid, solidarity.
La Station is offering two four-month residencies in 2026.
1/ Residency from 1 March to 30 June 2026
2/ Residency from 1 September to 31 December 2026
SELECTION CRITERIA
Professional artists residing in Europe who are engaged in contemporary creative work in the field of visual and/or sound arts and who wish to produce new works or pursue their artistic research in an atypical setting, that of an artist-run space. A certain appetite for sharing, domesticity and collective experience is recommended in order to make the most of this residency; artists with a great need for peace and quiet and/or solitude will not find the conditions conducive to their creativity here. Residencies are ongoing and during this time the artist participates in the activities of the organisation. The artist will be required to open their studio for specific visits by art professionals and school groups (maximum 10 studio openings per
session). Each selected artist will have the opportunity to lead a series of educational workshops
(additional remuneration: €70/hour). Duo applications are permitted, but the financial and accommodation conditions remain the same: the duo must therefore share the grant, the studio and the accommodation (one bed only).
ACCOMMODATION CONDITIONS
- A 40 m² studio at La Station (adjoining another studio)
- Accommodation in Nice
- A grant of €5,000 covering per diem, production, travel and
transport, as well as a public presentation.
Artists are responsible for their own production and are asked to bring their own tools. However, they
may use the equipment available at La Station (sound, control room, machines, etc.) when
it is available.
RESIDENCY PRESENTATION
The two residents selected for 2026 will present their research in the form of a short exhibition (to be defined according to La Station's programme, with the workshop possibly serving as the venue), a performance, or any other artistic form they deem appropriate (at least one meeting with the public must be organised). This presentation, open to the public, will showcase the results of the research conducted during the residencies. As La Station does not act as a curator, this presentation will be designed by the temporary artist-residents in dialogue with the permanent residents. La Station does not impose a final production obligation on temporary residents; however, their residency time must have been used for a specific research project. Each presentation will take place during the residency period or immediately after the end of this period if the schedule allows and with the artist's prior agreement.
