Overview

The Taurus Prize for Visual Arts is awarded every 2 years to a contemporary artist by a committee. Dedicated to a geographical area, the fund aims at upending imposition of a-priori exterior narratives onto territories. Every 2 years, a new area of research is chosen, the size of a street, a region or a country. The committee is renewed accordingly and composed of people from the area, or having expert knowledge about it. All artists who have a project about this area are invited to apply.

In 2023-24, the area of research chosen by the Taurus Foundation for Arts and Sciences is the Rhone River will be in Corsica. We will focus on a micro-région, the Nebbio/Nebbiu, also known as the land of clouds.

The name is derived from the nebulous formations that can be seen before sunrise when the hot air from the sea meets the cooler air coming down from the Corsican mountains. This region, in upper corsica, spans the land around the Bay of Saint-Florent, west of the cape and east of the balagne region. We’ll also consider applications for projects devoted to the broader north-west region of Corsica (Cape, Balagne, Nebbiu).

Aside from its financial dimension, the Taurus Prize for Visual Arts aims at supporting its laureates in the long run, and at developing a support system and a conversation about the laureates' projects. The award enables the laureate to travel to the area, if they does not live there, according to their schedule and to develop the project.
