This residency is open to both emerging and established film artists for short, medium, or feature-length projects for which shooting is completed and editing is already advanced, and it is available for films with or without the backing of a producer. Submissions should concern films currently in progress – proposals about re-grading older films will not be examined.

Only the projects that fall within the field of experimental cinema will be examined. No other criteria (format, theme, processing, length, nationality of filmmaker, etc.) will be imposed. The candidate must designate to what genre the project belongs to (animation, diary, cameraless films, etc). Light Cone will not consider documentary or fiction films.

The selection is carried out by a committee that examines the project applications. Two committees are organized annually: the first in November, and the second in May. Entries are closed after the reception of the 30th project. An announcement is published when the quota has been reached. All the projects received after this announcement and until the final deadline will be examined in the following session. Projects that were not selected cannot be resubmitted for future sessions.

The length of the residency is determined, in coordination with the filmmaker, upon project selection and according to the needs of the film. The residencies have a maximum duration of 2 to 3 weeks. In the case of feature-length projects, the residency can be prolonged up to 4 weeks upon approval of the Light Cone team. If necessary, the residency can be spaced out over a number of separate sessions.

Light Cone keeps a DCP of the finished work for its archives along with the possibility of screening it as a part of the residency or for its public activities.
