working grants for comic artists

In 2026, the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion will award work grants to comic artists who live and work in Berlin (with a documented primary residence) – subject to available budget funds. The grants are intended to provide comic artists with the opportunity to further their artistic education and development and to realize specific work projects.

The scholarships are intended for the artistic development of professional comic artists. Funding is provided for time-limited work projects or the continuation or completion of certain works. The criteria for awarding a scholarship are primarily artistic and content quality as well as innovation. The purpose of awarding the scholarship is also to support the development of the Berlin comics scene.

An independent jury of experts will decide on the applications. The names of the jury members will be announced in due course. Please refrain from contacting the jury members personally in advance of the procedure.
