It’s Freezing in LA! all out for our next special edition – a collection of climate fiction (Cli-fi) shorts! Have you been sitting on a climate related short story or good cli-fi idea? Send us a pitch!
Length: We’re welcoming ‘flash fiction’, comics and other short fiction formats. Written work can be anything from a couple of paragraphs to 3000 words. For comics, or visual narrative works, published pieces will be a maximum of 4 pages long.
Content: We’re interested in fiction’s ability to engage people in ways that non-fiction and journalism can’t. We believe that good cli-fi should reveal something important about our world right now, even if the story seems abstract or is set far away or in a distant future. Cli-fi can reframe what we ‘know’, and we’d love to shine a light on radical forms of environmental resistance that might be difficult to talk about or advocate for in ‘real life’. Effective cli-fi can be subtle and environmental themes in your piece could be woven into the background.
Format: We’re interested in publishing different cli-fi visions. Whether you work is dystopian, utopian, or somewhere in between; consists of fictional found documents; depicts fictionalised accounts of real events; or leans into perspectives from non-human or more-than-human characters; we want to hear it!
