Overview

Decagon Gallery, a Brooklyn-based platform for contemporary photography, invites photographers to submit work for THE ROOM NEXT DOOR, an exhibition about the space just beyond what we see. We are looking for images that lead the viewer to the edge of a place they cannot fully enter: a door left ajar, a lit window across a courtyard, a hallway turning out of sight, a sound through a wall. The strongest work will hold something back, letting what lies beyond stay with the viewer's imagination. Thresholds, reflections, interiors seen from outside, neighboring lives glimpsed at a distance, and staged or constructed scenes that invent what waits on the other side are all welcome. Documentary, conceptual and experimental approaches are open; people may appear, but the subject is the space between here and there.

The exhibition is juried by Dr. Susan Bright, a curator, art historian and writer who has curated exhibitions for Tate Britain, the National Portrait Gallery (UK) and Princeton University Art Museum, and is the author of seven books on photography.

Submit JPGs sized to 2100 pixels on the long side, with no text, watermarks or borders. Photographers keep all rights, including copyright, to their work.
