Soundcinema Düsseldorf is a recorded sound festival for experimental, electronic, and electroacoustic music and sound art. The event spans one evening, during which ten selected submissions are presented in an acousmatic perceptual situation and subsequently awarded by a panel of experts and the audience. One prize per category and an audience award, each endowed with €750, are presented.
The thematic focus "Webscapes" is seeking compositions that conceptually explore the structures and content, mediality, and cultural, social, and subjective effects of the internet. How can one approach the digital sphere of the internet from a musical perspective, reflect its dynamics and structures sonically, or utilize its data streams and content as a compositional resource? What compositional strategies emerge when one considers the fluid topology of digital networks, their algorithmic flows, and rhizomatic connections, as the material basis of sonic articulation? Can structural analogies be established between network topologies and musical forms?
We are looking for musical compositions, sound collages, sound experiments, soundscapes, narrative audio formats, or technoid productions characterized by a transgressive and futuristic impetus and attempting to subvert conventional listening experiences. Entries can be submitted either for the open category or for this year's thematic focus "Webscapes."
