sonar challenge: call for short sound narratives
For the second year in a row, SONAR invites you to share unexpected stories for the SONAR Challenge. The SONAR Challenge is an opportunity to reconnect with sound and the impulse to create for the sheer joy of it.
The process is simple: we propose a theme and you must create an original audio piece of no more than five minutes .
The piece must be a narrative : that is, it must have a narrative arc, tell a story that unfolds or transforms. It can be a story, an experience, a moment… but something must change: it must take us from one point to another.
THEME: FABRICS
Tell us a story with the theme of "fabrics." Yes, fabrics!
We invite you to consider this theme from unexpected perspectives: the memories and feelings evoked by certain fabric objects, their textures, their history, the things they cover or protect, the bodies that use them, the places they come from or where they might go, the word itself... or any other possibility you can think of. Creativity in interpreting this theme is welcome.
What we are looking for
Sound experimentation: The piece should creatively and artistically use various sound sources such as interviews, soundscapes, narration, music, archival audio, and effects, among others. You don't need to use them all: the intention is more important than the quantity of elements.
Narrative experimentation: The piece must challenge the conventions of narration; for example, different points of view are used to tell the story, it plays with the chronology of the story, it breaks linearity, it uses unexpected narrators, it mixes genres, formats and tones, etc.
