Nanjing UNESCO City of Literature in China has launched the open call for the Nanjing Virtual Writers’ Residency 2022. Applicants should come from UNESCO literary cities. Six resident writers, poets or translators will be selected by the panel for a virtual residency in November 2022.
The theme of the programme for 2022 is ‘Rivers and Literature’. Rivers throughout the world have made a significant contribution to culture and civilisation, making themselves a constant topic for literary creation. Waterways can serve as a source of literary imagination. They can turn into the main character in literary works. And in many cases they are the bearers of literary stories, making cultural communication fluid and far-reaching.
Selected writers will enjoy virtual tours of literary landmarks in Nanjing, and participate in online workshops with local writers, to share views on such topics as literature’s role in a digital era, or the relationship between literature and urban life.
Applicants are expected to:
Create a literary work in English, which is inspired by the virtual residency. Be fluent in English, or Chinese. Have at least three years of experience in writing, or at least one published work in print.
