Ralf Tekaat (www.ralftekaat.de) studied Visual Arts at the University Of The Arts Bremen in the classes of Wolfgang Schmitz and Paco Knöller. He lives and works in Berlin.

#1. A talk with Korean artists in Berlin residency programs

On May 2nd during the Gallery Weekend, NON Berlin is launching its first SATELLITE TALK with artists who are currently participating in artist residency programs provided by KÜNSTLER HAUS BETHANIEN and ZK/U in Berlin, Germany. For the first round, 3 artists - Byeongseo YOO, Kijin PARK and Dae Hong KIM from ARKO, the Busan Cultural Foundation and CAN foundation will introduce their works to the Berlin audience.

This will be a great opportunity to find out about the artists, their works, their thoughts behind and beyond. For our participating artists, we believe it will be a good chance to create a connection with the Berlin art scene. NON Berlin will provide Korean-English interpretation throughout the presentations and talks. We look forward to seeing you!

is a program organized by Asia contemporary art platform NON Berlin with the initiative to introduce Asian contemporary artists to Berlin, Germany and furthermore Europe. As more and more Asian artists are flying abroad from their countries to take part in international artist residency programs, we are willing to become a platform/station to bring them closer to Berlin's contemporary art scene and to support their works. We believe this will accelerate exchange and create stronger networking among the Asian-European art field.

In vis-à-vis, Laure Catugier and Yooree Yang’s works look profoundly different : either through their aesthetic, the medium or else the impressions we get out of them. Yet, common curiosities lead them over shared ground; notably towards an expanded sense of architecture and space, whether constructed or conceived, built or imagined. 

The paths of these two young artists also show similar trajectories. Laure Catugier was born in Toulouse (France), where she studied architecture and art before choosing to settle in Berlin. Yooree Yang also lives and works in the German capital city, after spending her childhood in Jeju in South Korea and studying art in Marseille (France). Interested in developing exchanges between Asia and West Europe, while attempting to avoid stereotypical discourses, NON Berlin perceived a potential dialogue between the two artists.

This exhibition project is also fed by these displacements through the mix of languages : between French (shared and chosen by the two artists), English, German and Korean. A constant translation game leads us to articulate the project around one word: « blank », itself suggesting multiple meanings. Some of the possible derivations of this English term enable us to build precise logics between these two expressions.


Absolutely physical, the work of both artists introduces us the presence of absence (2). This paradox escapes from the poetic sphere of the language to find plastic expression in space.

Asia contemporary art platform NON Berlin ist eine Plattform mit dem Ziel asiatische zeitgenössische Kunst in Berlin zu fördern. NON Berlin sind einen Projektraum für asiatische Kunst und die interdisziplinäres Netzwerk von Künstlern und Kuratoren in Berlin. NON Berlin versucht langfristig eine Plattform für einen Kulturaustausch zwischen Asien und Europa aufzubauen und einen Diskurs zwischen asiatischer und europäischer Kunst & Kultur zur fördern und diesen in den beiden Kunstmarkt einzubringen.
 
HEKO (Herz für Korea e.V.) ist ein gemeinnütziger Verein mit Sitz in Berlin. HEKO  verfolgt das Ziel, die friedliche und demokratische Wiedervereinigung Koreas zu unterstützen. Ein wichtiges Anliegen in diesem Zusammenhang ist es, zur Verbesserung der Menschenrechtssituation in Nordkorea beizutragen. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt ist der Beitrag zur friedlichen Wiedervereinigung und die Vorbereitung für den Integrationsprozess nach der Wiedervereinigung.
