In this public and digital intervention the question (and title of this project) "Is this a real man?" is plastered on random objects across Mexico City as well as digital images as a parody of any attempt at defining what a "real" man may or may not be. 

¿Es acaso esto un hombre de verdad? (Is this a real man?)

It outlines how the project conceives of masculinities as: 1. processes; 2. multiplicities; 3. ethical practices in the everyday in order to open up the concept towards a more vital and co-responsible gender performance.

La masculinidad es un evento (Masculinity as Event)

Incubadora de Masculinidades is a long term political-timing-specific project dedicated to investigating the ways in which Mexican people (of any gender) learn, conceptualize, and enact masculinities and their complexities with the aim of eventually co-creating anti-sexist and anti-hegemonic models of masculinity to be enacted through performance in the everyday, turning aesthetic research/practice into a vehicle for relational ethics outside of art.

The first fase of IM, Atlas de Masculinidades (Atlas of Masculinities), is a participatory research project which seeks to generate an archive of personal experiences by turning the male body into a space for political discourse. The simple human silhouettes painted or plastered on walls all over Mexico (from galleries and malls to streets and prisons) are accompanied by questions or prompts which direct the audience to draw and write directly on the silhouettes. Thus, in  an attempt to resignify the Atlas of myth, the male body becomes the bearer of lived diversity against the universalizing edicts of machismo and male dominance, while also serving as a pedagogical tool for future fases of IM.
