Matteo Lombardi, who dares to explore the term "carrion" in his work, intertwines the meanings of life and death, good and evil. Stripped of its sacredness and mystery, our time shies away from the image, the representation, the very idea of death. We no longer see it in our daily lives as it was in rural societies, where it was a daily practice of survival. We do not engage with it in ritual: no longer touch dead’s bodies, wash them, dress them, or accompany them as a community. Death is sensationalized in digital devices at every moment, yet completely erased from the visual and experiential spectrum of our lives. This erasure unconsciously allows us to believe we are immortal, nurturing the hope that incorruptible flesh might resurrect in the form of a machine, perhaps having the same voice, the same shape, the same posture, capable of replacing absence. The transformation that characterizes life flow in human beings takes on an additional meaning: it is technological evolution, where the boundary between the human individual and its artificial counterpart becomes increasingly blurred.
